I’ve been feeling lately that Clare was ready to make the transition from crib to toddler bed. She hasn’t been trying to climb out of her crib or anything, but we’ve been talking a lot about “big girl” things like going to the potty and cleaning up after ourselves, and this seemed like the next step.
Here are some of the things we did to help prepare her for the transition:
1. Had lots of conversations about being a “big girl” and getting a big girl bed. We’ve tried to make it a really fun and exciting thing by bringing her into bed with us and saying things like “You’re going to get a big girl bed like Mommy and Daddy!”
2. Got her involved with the process by showing her the new bed linens and letting her pick out animals to bring to bed with her.
3. Let her stay in the room while we converted the crib to a toddler bed and narrated the process to her.
4. Read “Five Little Monkeys” a LOT and talked about how to stay safe in her new bed.
So how did the transition go? I think these pictures speak for themselves!
Clare loves her bed! I think she likes that it’s not so boxed in and that it makes her feel more grown up. I have to admit that it makes me a little sad, though. Where did our baby go?
Our biggest fear was that Clare would get out of bed and try to wander around the house, but she stayed put! I think that because we simply converted her crib and put the rail on front, the transition wasn’t shocking at all for her. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
We went with a fox theme for her bed, because Clare LOVES foxes. She’s obsessed with the movie Fantastic Mr. Fox, (we love it too), and has received lots of fox-y gifts from friends and family.
How cute is this fleece blanket that my sister made her for Christmas? It’s the warmest, coziest blanket in the whole wide world.
And I’m crazy about this fox that my BFF gave Clare for Christmas. I don’t know where she found it, but it’s definitely handmade and one of Clare’s favorites.
The white bedding set is from Amazon and I cannot rave about it enough. I really wanted to get her some very simple, good quality bed linens instead of a plastic-y Disney-fied set. The comforter in this minky set is so plush and soft. My favorite feature is that both the comforter and flat sheet are fitted on one end so that they stay put. Can they make this in adult size? It’s so deliciously cozy.
In other news, we’re spending this weekend cleaning and packing. Can’t believe we’re moving in less than two weeks!!! Yikes!!! But we took a little break from cleaning this morning for a dance party:
